What is Lean-AI
For leaders

Take the speed without losing control.

Artificial intelligence keeps its promise of speed wherever something is produced. The worry beside it is just as valid: who makes which decision from now on, who notices when something went wrong, and who answers for it. Having both at once is the job of leadership.

The cause

Control through reviewing does not scale

Control today usually means somebody looks it over. As long as producing was expensive that worked, there was not that much to look at. Once producing costs almost nothing, the volume of work requiring review goes up and review capacity does not go up with it.

Whoever changes nothing about that has a choice between two bad endings: slow down until none of the speed is left, or wave things through until it gets expensive once. The way out is not more reviewing but limits inside which nothing wrong can happen.

Work Waiting
Without AI Lead time 100 %
With AI Lead time 89 %
Lead time of one item, split into work and waiting. The work shrinks to a quarter. The lead time barely moves.
Governance

Four questions that have to be answered first

An agent allowed onto real systems needs the same four answers as a new hire – only in writing, because otherwise it gives them to itself.

1

What may it touch

Which systems, which data, which amounts. Without a limit, everything technically reachable counts.

2

Who approves

What runs without asking, what needs a human. And who that human is, by name.

3

How do you get back

Roll back, switch off, restore yesterday – practised, not merely described.

4

How do you notice

Which signal shows that something went wrong, and who sees it. Without that, you notice from the complaint.

Where things stand

Deployment is outrunning control

74 per cent of companies expect to use autonomous agents at least moderately within two years. 21 per cent have a mature governance model for them today.
